Running an online store means your finances are more complicated than most accountants expect — multiple channels, marketplace settlements, cross-border VAT and margins that shift by SKU. OD Accountants works with ecommerce businesses every day. Fixed monthly fees, Niall O'Driscoll FCMA CGMA leading the engagement, and questions answered the day you ask them.

  • Multi-channel sales reconciled cleanly, every month without a backlog
  • VAT obligations across channels monitored before they become a problem
  • Margin by channel visible in your management accounts each month
  • Tax bill known well in advance of any HMRC deadline

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Ecommerce books that no generalist quite gets right.

Most accountants understand a single bank account and a monthly invoice run. Ecommerce businesses are considerably messier — settlement reports, marketplace fees, multi-currency payouts, inventory write-downs and VAT rules that vary by channel and territory. The result is usually books that are weeks behind, a tax bill that arrives as a surprise, and a year-end process that takes far longer than it should.

  • Hours lost reconciling marketplace settlements against actual bank receipts
  • VAT on cross-border and multi-channel sales not tracked or filed correctly
  • No visibility of margin by channel, so no idea which part of the business is actually profitable

What sorted looks like for ecommerce

Clean books each month, VAT handled across every channel, and a clear picture of where the margin is. That is what an accountant who already understands how ecommerce works delivers — without you needing to explain the basics first.

  • Marketplace settlements reconciled monthly — no year-end scramble, no unexplained differences
  • VAT across all channels filed correctly and on time, with threshold and scheme changes flagged early
  • Channel-level margin visible in monthly management accounts — know where profit is actually coming from
  • Fixed monthly fee — no hourly billing surprises when the year-end comes around

Everything an ecommerce business actually needs

Compliance handled, reporting built for the way online retail works, and strategic input available when the numbers need more than just filing.

02

VAT, MTD and Cross-Border Compliance

03

Strategic Finance and Virtual FD

For ecommerce businesses that want more than compliance, OD Accountants can act as an outsourced finance director — cash-flow forecasting, scenario modelling, lender-ready reporting and commercial input on pricing, margins and growth. Why OD Accountants

What makes this different from a general practice

Ecommerce businesses have specific accounting needs. The firm's cloud-first setup and founder background mean those needs are understood before you explain them.

🛒

No explaining how ecommerce works

FBA fees, referral charges, settlement reports, multi-currency payouts — you will not need to walk through the basics before getting a useful answer. OD Accountants works with internet retailers and marketplace sellers as a matter of routine, not as an occasional exception. The time you save not explaining your business is part of the value.

☁️

Cloud-first means real-time numbers

The firm is built around modern cloud accounting software and best-of-breed app integrations — which matters for ecommerce because your data moves fast. Inventory, sales feeds and payment processor data flow into the accounts rather than being entered manually at month-end. Your books are current, not historical.

📈

Chartered depth, not just compliance filing

Founder Niall O'Driscoll FCMA, CGMA spent over a decade working on restructures and turnarounds for listed UK and overseas companies before founding OD Accountants. That commercial background means the service goes beyond filing — margin analysis, forecasting and strategic input are available to ecommerce clients that want them, without hiring a full-time FD.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

The onboarding process is designed to do the heavy lifting on our side, not yours. Most clients are fully set up within a couple of weeks of the first call.

1

Book a discovery call

A short call to understand how your ecommerce business is structured — channels, volumes, current software, any outstanding compliance. No preparation required on your part. You will leave the call with a clear picture of what is involved and what it costs.

2

Receive a fixed-fee proposal

A written proposal covering exactly what is included and the monthly fee. No hourly billing. No vague scope that expands at year-end. If the proposal does not work for you, there is no obligation.

3

We handle the transition

Switching from another accountant, or starting fresh — either way, the migration is handled by the team. Access to your previous accounts, cloud platform setup and any catch-up work is managed on our side. You provide access; we do the rest.

4

Your accounts run in the background

Monthly reconciliations, VAT returns, management accounts and tax filings happen without you chasing or worrying about deadlines. Your numbers are current, your compliance is handled, and your accountant is a message away when something comes up. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Things ecommerce sellers usually ask first

Do you actually understand Amazon settlements, FBA fees and marketplace accounting — or will I spend the first month explaining it?+

OD Accountants works with internet retailers and marketplace sellers including Amazon FBA businesses. Settlement reports, referral fees, FBA fulfilment charges, reimbursements and multi-currency payouts are part of the day-to-day work, not an unusual edge case. You will not need to explain how Amazon pays out before getting a useful answer.

What does it cost, and what is actually included in the fee?+

Pricing is fixed monthly and scoped to your business — channel volumes, VAT obligations, whether you need management accounts or just compliance, and whether director self-assessment is included. Fees are not published on the website because the right number depends on your situation, but the proposal is specific and there are no hidden extras at year-end. Clients in Google reviews consistently describe the pricing as very reasonable, with tax savings often more than covering the engagement.

My books are a bit of a mess and I am behind on VAT. Is that a problem when switching?+

Not unusual, and not a reason to delay. Catch-up work — whether that is months of unreconciled sales data or outstanding VAT returns — is scoped and costed separately at the outset so there are no surprises. The transition is handled by the team. Most clients arrive with some degree of backlog and leave the onboarding process with everything current.

Is there a minimum contract or a penalty if I want to leave?+

No long-term contract. If the engagement is not working after three months, you leave with clean, portable books and nothing further owed. The firm's client retention — with verified Google reviews showing clients of seven, ten and eleven years still active — tends to speak for itself, but the arrangement is not one that relies on lock-in.

I sell across multiple channels — Shopify, Amazon, eBay and my own website. Can you handle all of them in one engagement?+

Yes. Multi-channel is the norm rather than the exception for ecommerce clients. Sales data from each platform is reconciled against your payment processors and bank account monthly. The cloud-first setup means integrations with major ecommerce platforms and payment providers are part of the workflow rather than a workaround.

How far ahead will I know my Corporation Tax liability?+

For clients on management accounts, the tax position is visible and updated monthly — not calculated for the first time when the accountant does the year-end. You should know your approximate Corporation Tax bill several months before it is due, with enough time to plan around it rather than simply pay whatever arrives.

Ready when you are

Less time on the books. More on the business.
