Sound familiar?
Not sure how to set your company up properly?
Most people forming a company for the first time get the broad strokes right and miss the details that matter. The wrong share structure, a missed VAT registration deadline, a director's loan account that was not explained properly — these are not dramatic failures. They are the sort of thing that costs time and money to unpick later, usually at the worst possible moment.
- Unsure whether to incorporate as a sole trader, partnership or limited company
- No clear picture of what you are supposed to file, or when, in year one
- VAT threshold and registration timing not considered before trading begins
What a clean start looks like
Formation done correctly means fewer corrections later. The right structure, the right registrations and a clear picture of what is due and when — before your first invoice goes out.
- Corporate structure chosen based on your actual circumstances, not a default template
- Year-one filing obligations — accounts, Corporation Tax, confirmation statement — laid out clearly before they arrive
- VAT position assessed from the outset, with registration timed to suit how you trade
- Fixed fee, no surprises — competitive pricing confirmed before any work begins
What new company founders say
Two clients who came to OD Accountants at the start of their business — one a digital nomad with a non-standard setup, one a first-time founder who had never dealt with an accountant before.
Been with OD Accountants for over a year now. Niall and the team are brilliant. They helped me set up a company and get everything I needed in place to run my business. I'm a tricky client due to my 'digital nomad' status, but their advice…
As a new start up and having never dealt with an accountant, Niall at OD Accountants has been very welcoming and supportive. All our prior queries and issues have been resolved, and he is always available to meet the needs of our team.
Everything a new company needs from day one
Formation is the starting point. What follows immediately — structure, registrations, first-year filings — is where most founders need the most help.
Companies House Registration
Your company is incorporated correctly — right structure, right share allocation, right registered office from the outset. OD Accountants is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, so the filing is handled directly without third-party intermediaries. You receive your certificate of incorporation and are ready to trade.
Included as standardStructure and Tax Registration Advice
Before you trade, it is worth understanding your Corporation Tax registration, your VAT position and how director remuneration is handled. Getting this wrong in month one creates work later. The advice is practical and specific to your business, not a generic checklist.
Included as standardYear-One Filing Roadmap
Your first accounts, first Corporation Tax return and first confirmation statement all fall due in your first year — on different dates, with different rules. You will know exactly what is coming and when, so none of them arrive as a surprise. Cloud accounting is set up from day one so your records are current throughout.
Included as standardConsistently hands-on, across every type of client
From hospitality operators to long-term business owners to service companies — the same description comes up repeatedly: available, above and beyond, and fees that more than pay for themselves.
Above and Beyond, Years of Service
“I've been there for years and Niall and his team go above and beyond the duties to provide accounting services but also general advices. They are always available if you need anything while charging very competitive prices. I could not recommend them enough.”
Hands-On, Not a Faceless Client
“Unlike my previous Accountants, Niall is far more hands-on, available for advice and able to care for me as an individual, rather than a faceless client. His fees are very reasonable and the money he has saved me more than covers them.”
Confident, Integrated, Always Well-Informed
“The service from OD has been excellent, as has their advice. It's great to have access to a financial team who can guide us with such confidence and seamlessly integrate with our internal team. We always feel well-informed and confident about our financial processes and data. Highly recommend.”
What makes this different from filing it yourself
Formation is straightforward. Getting the structure, timing and registrations right at the point of formation is where an accountant earns their fee.
ACSP — No Intermediary Required
OD Accountants is an Authorised Corporate Service Provider, registered directly with Companies House. Your confirmation statements and statutory filings are handled by the firm itself — not routed through a formation agent. That matters for accuracy and for your ongoing compliance record.
Chartered Depth on Day One
Founder Niall O'Driscoll FCMA, CGMA spent 10+ years as a freelance accountant specialising in restructures and turnarounds for listed UK and overseas companies before founding OD Accountants. The structure advice you receive at formation draws on that background — it is not a default template.
Cloud Accounting From the Start
Your books are set up on cloud accounting software from day one, not retrofitted once things get complicated. That means your records are current from your first transaction, your VAT position is visible in real time, and your first-year accounts do not require a scramble to reconstruct months of data.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
The process takes most of the effort off your plate. You answer some questions. We handle the filing, the setup and the roadmap.
Book a Discovery Call
A short conversation to understand your business, your plans and whether you are better off as a limited company, sole trader or something else. No obligation, no jargon. You will leave the call knowing exactly what the right structure is and what it costs.
We Handle the Formation
Once you are happy to proceed, OD Accountants registers your company at Companies House directly as an Authorised Corporate Service Provider. Share structure, registered office, director details — all handled correctly. You receive your certificate of incorporation without having to manage the filing yourself.
Registrations and Cloud Setup
Corporation Tax registration, VAT assessment and cloud accounting setup follow immediately. You start trading on the right footing — with your VAT position understood, your tax reference in hand, and your bookkeeping running from day one rather than reconstructed at year end.
Trade with the Year Mapped Out
You will have a clear picture of what is due and when throughout your first year — accounts, Corporation Tax, confirmation statement, VAT returns. No filing deadline lands as a surprise. The compliance is handled. You focus on the business.
“Niall and his team are supportive, clear and directional accountants who have supported our small business staff up. They're always on the end of the phone to advise and assist and provide a top service for our accounting needs. Plus they're just nice people which helps too!!”
What people ask before forming a company
Do I actually need a limited company, or is sole trader fine for now?
It depends on your earnings, your liability exposure and your plans for the business. A limited company offers legal separation between you and the business and can be more tax-efficient once profits exceed a certain level — but it also brings additional filing obligations. The discovery call is specifically to answer this question for your situation, not in general.
What does company formation cost, and what is included?
Pricing is fixed and confirmed before any work begins. Formation includes Companies House registration, share structure advice, director setup and your certificate of incorporation. Ongoing compliance — Corporation Tax, VAT, bookkeeping, confirmation statements — is quoted separately as part of a monthly fixed fee. Clients consistently describe the fees as competitive, with tax savings that more than cover the engagement.
I have already been trading for a few months without an accountant — is it too late to get set up properly?
No. It is common to start trading before the paperwork is fully in order. The catch-up work — reconciling transactions, registering for the right taxes, getting bookkeeping current — is factored into the initial quote honestly, without hidden uplift. The sooner it is addressed, the less there is to untangle.
Is there a long-term contract?
No. Ongoing work is provided on a fixed monthly basis with no lock-in period. If it is not working, you leave with a properly incorporated company, clean books and nothing owed. The expectation is that clients stay because the service is useful, not because leaving is complicated.
Can you help if my situation is non-standard — overseas founders, digital nomads, remote teams?
Yes. OD Accountants works with digital nomads, overseas-based founders, Amazon sellers and international setups regularly. The structure advice at formation takes your residency position, where you are trading and how you are paid into account from the outset. Non-standard situations are handled without the need to over-explain how your business works.
What tax planning should I be thinking about in my first year as a limited company?
Director remuneration — the balance between salary and dividends — is the most immediate planning point for most new limited company owners. Pension contributions, VAT scheme choice and the timing of capital expenditure are also worth considering early. These are covered as part of the formation advice, not left for the year-end accounts.
