Sound familiar?
Books behind, tax bill unknown, VAT a nagging worry?
A lot of Manchester business owners are doing their own bookkeeping — badly, sporadically, or not at all until the year-end deadline forces the issue. The records exist somewhere, but they do not tell you much. HMRC correspondence gets filed in a drawer. The quarterly VAT return gets done in a hurry. Which is, frankly, not the way it should work.
- Books weeks behind, making your actual financial position difficult to know
- VAT return completed in a rush the day before the deadline every quarter
- No clear picture of what tax is going to be owed until the bill arrives
What sorted looks like
Cloud bookkeeping run by a chartered firm means your records are current, your VAT is filed on time without drama, and your tax position is visible well in advance of any deadline. Considerably less to think about.
- Reconciled books every month so your financial position is always clear
- VAT returns prepared and filed ahead of deadline, with HMRC correspondence handled
- Tax liability visible months in advance — no surprise bills at year end
- Fixed monthly fee, no hidden costs, no time-of-crisis uplift charges
What SME clients say about working with us
OD Accountants works with small businesses across retail, hospitality, professional services and start-ups. Here is what clients with similar needs have said.
Niall and his team are supportive, clear and directional accountants who have supported our small business staff up. They're always on the end of the phone to advise and assist and provide a top service for our accounting needs. Plus they're just nice people which helps too!!
I've been there for years and Niall and his team go above and beyond the duties to provide accounting services but also general advices. They are always available if you need anything while charging very competitive prices. I could not recommend them enough.
What your monthly bookkeeping fee covers
The engagement covers day-to-day records, VAT compliance and the reporting layer on top — so you know where you stand, every month, without chasing your accountant.
Monthly Cloud Bookkeeping
All transactions coded, reconciled and current within Xero or your chosen cloud platform each month. FBA settlements, bank feeds, supplier invoices — whatever your business generates, it is processed and categorised correctly so the numbers make sense. No year-end backlog.
Included as standardVAT Returns and MTD Compliance
Every quarterly VAT return prepared and submitted on time, with Making Tax Digital obligations met as standard. Your VAT threshold is monitored throughout the year — you will not wake up to a registration obligation you were not expecting. HMRC correspondence is handled directly.
Included as standardManagement Numbers and Reporting
A monthly summary of your income, expenditure and margins in a format designed for business owners rather than accountants. Know what you are earning, what it is costing you, and where the pressure points are — without waiting for year-end accounts to tell you.
Available with bookkeepingClients who have been with us for years
Several OD Accountants clients have been with the firm for more than a decade. Reviews consistently mention responsiveness, competitive pricing and the quality of the ongoing relationship.
Hands-On, Available, Cares for Each Client
“Unlike my previous Accountants, Niall is far more hands-on, available for advice and able to care for me as an individual, rather than a faceless client. His fees are very reasonable and the money he has saved me more than covers them.”
Welcoming, Supportive and Always Available
“As a new start up and having never dealt with an accountant, Niall at OD Accountants has been very welcoming and supportive. All our prior queries and issues have been resolved, and he is always available to meet the needs of our team.”
Confidently Integrated With Our Internal Team
“The service from OD has been excellent, as has their advice. It's great to have access to a financial team who can guide us with such confidence and seamlessly integrate with our internal team. We always feel well-informed and confident about our financial processes and data. Highly recommend.”
Why Manchester businesses use a London chartered firm
Cloud accounting means geography is not the constraint it used to be. What matters is the quality of the firm and the responsiveness of the team.
Cloud-first means always current
OD Accountants is built around Xero and best-of-breed SaaS integrations rather than retrofitted onto them. Your books are updated in real time via bank feeds and automated coding rules, not batched up at month end. The compliance output is the same as a traditional firm; the workflow is considerably faster.
Chartered oversight, not bookkeeper-only
Founder Niall O'Driscoll is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA, CGMA) with 10-plus years of freelance restructure and turnaround work across listed UK and overseas companies. Day-to-day bookkeeping is reviewed by a chartered accountant, not signed off in a vacuum. If something looks wrong in the numbers, you hear about it before it becomes a problem.
Responsive and long-term by default
Verified Google reviews going back more than a decade describe the team as hands-on, always available and willing to go above and beyond. Multiple clients have been with the firm for seven, ten, even eleven years. That tenure is not incidental — it reflects a firm that treats client relationships as ongoing rather than transactional.
Up and running in four straightforward steps
Switching accountants or starting from scratch takes less effort than most people expect. Here is what the process looks like.
Book a discovery call
A short call to understand your business, your current bookkeeping setup and what you actually need. No preparation required on your side. You will leave knowing exactly what the engagement covers and what the fixed fee is.
Receive a fixed-fee proposal
A written proposal setting out scope, deliverables and monthly fee — no ambiguity about what is and is not included. If your books need catching up first, that is costed separately and agreed upfront before any work starts.
We handle the migration
Access to your Xero account (or existing cloud platform) is shared and the firm takes it from there. Bank feeds connected, chart of accounts reviewed, historical transactions tidied up. You do very little at this stage.
Clean books from here forward
From the first complete month, your books are reconciled, your VAT position is visible, and you receive a monthly summary in plain language. Tax is no longer a surprise. Your accountant is a message or call away when something comes up.
“Been with OD Accountants for over a year now. Niall and the team are brilliant. They helped me set up a company and get everything I needed in place to run my business. I'm a tricky client due to my 'digital nomad' status, but their advice…”
A few things Manchester clients usually ask
Can you handle bookkeeping for a Manchester business entirely remotely?
Yes. OD Accountants delivers all bookkeeping remotely via Xero and cloud-connected tools — bank feeds, receipt capture, automated coding. There is no requirement to visit an office or post physical documents. Clients across the UK, including overseas-based founders, are served on exactly the same basis. A video call for onboarding and the occasional review meeting is the extent of the face-to-face requirement, if that.
What does bookkeeping actually cost and what is included?
Fees are fixed monthly and agreed upfront, covering reconciliation, VAT returns, MTD compliance and a monthly reporting summary. The exact figure depends on transaction volume and whether payroll or management reporting is also needed — which is why the discovery call comes first. Clients in Google reviews describe the pricing as very reasonable and note that the tax savings tend to more than cover the fee.
My books are several months behind. Is that a problem to switch now?
It is not unusual. The catch-up work is scoped and costed separately during the proposal stage so there are no surprises. Once the backlog is cleared, the ongoing monthly fee applies. Most clients arrive with records in some state of disarray and leave considerably more organised — that is a fairly standard starting point.
Is there a minimum contract term or a penalty for leaving?
No long-term contract and no exit penalty. If the engagement is not working after a few months, you leave with clean, up-to-date books and nothing further owed. The expectation is that the relationship works well enough that leaving does not become a question — but the door is not locked.
Do you handle payroll and auto-enrolment as well as bookkeeping?
Yes. Payroll processing and pension auto-enrolment can be added to a bookkeeping engagement. Running the two through the same cloud platform means the payroll journals post directly into the books without a reconciliation step in between. If payroll is a requirement, it is included in the proposal from the outset.
When will I know what my Corporation Tax bill is going to be?
With current books, a reasonable estimate of the year-end tax liability is available before the accounting year closes — not after HMRC sends the computation. That means you can plan the cash requirement in advance rather than finding it from reserves at short notice. It is one of the more practical differences between bookkeeping that is kept current and bookkeeping that is not.
Stop guessing what your books say. Get them sorted.
