Accountant for Influencer

Accountant for Influencer

Your content earns the income. We sort the tax.

Brand deals, affiliate income, AdSense, merch and subscriptions rarely arrive in a neat format, and most accountants are not set up for it. OD Accountants is a chartered management accounting firm that works with content creators and influencers on a fixed monthly fee, with same-day replies and FCMA-qualified oversight.

  • Self-assessment filed accurately with every income stream captured
  • Know your tax bill months before HMRC sends the reminder
  • Expenses — equipment, home office, travel — claimed correctly from day one
  • Limited company vs sole trader question answered with numbers, not guesswork

No long-term contract. If it is not working after three months, you leave with clean books and nothing owed.

Sound familiar?

Three income streams. Zero clarity on the tax.

Influencer income does not arrive in one place. Brand deals, affiliate commissions, platform payouts and product sales all land differently, often across multiple currencies and platforms. Most accountants deal with straightforward employment or a single trade. The result is either an expensive scramble at year-end or an educated guess on the self-assessment return — neither of which is particularly satisfying.

  • ✕ Brand deal payments recorded inconsistently, creating a mess at tax time
  • ✕ No clear picture of whether sole trader or limited company saves more tax
  • ✕ Expenses — equipment, software, home office — claimed partially or not at all

What sorted looks like

All income streams brought into one cloud accounting view. Tax position visible in real time. Expenses claimed correctly and consistently. And a clear, fixed fee so there are no surprises at renewal.

  • ✓ Brand deals, affiliate income and platform payouts reconciled and categorised correctly every month
  • ✓ Limited company vs sole trader modelled with actual numbers for your income level
  • ✓ Equipment, software, home office and travel expenses captured and claimed in full
  • ✓ Fixed monthly fee — no billable hours, no year-end invoice you were not expecting

What non-standard clients say about us

Influencers and content creators often arrive with income that does not fit a standard template. These are clients who came with exactly that kind of setup.

Been with OD Accountants for over a year now. Niall and the team are brilliant. They helped me set up a company and get everything I needed in place to run my business. I'm a tricky client due to my 'digital nomad' status, but their advice…

My other-half introduced me to Niall at OD Accountants and I have to say my finances are so much the better for it. Unlike my previous Accountants, Niall is far more hands-on, available for advice and able to care for me as an individual, rather than a faceless client. His fees are very reasonable and the money he has saved me more than covers them. If you need an Accountant who cares, Niall and OD Chartered Management Accountants are the way to go.

Why OD Accountants

Why influencers choose a chartered management accounting firm

Compliance is the minimum. What separates a useful accountant from a filing service is whether they already understand how your income actually works.

🎬

No explaining your income model

Brand deal structures, affiliate platforms, platform monetisation and product income are not unusual here. You will not spend the first meeting explaining how a sponsored post works before getting a useful answer. The setup for your accounts reflects how content creator income actually arrives.

☁️

Real-time view of your tax position

Cloud accounting means your books are current throughout the year, not assembled at year-end. Your tax liability is visible as income comes in, so a large brand deal does not produce a surprise bill six months later. That is considerably less to worry about.

🤝

Chartered oversight, personal delivery

Niall O'Driscoll FCMA, CGMA founded OD Accountants after 10-plus years of commercial finance and freelance restructure work. The firm is small enough that clients reach the people who know their accounts. Verified Google reviews going back over a decade describe the team as hands-on, always available and willing to go above and beyond.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

Most new clients are onboarded within a week. The process requires very little from you beyond the initial conversation.

1

Book a discovery call

A short call to understand your income sources, current setup and what is not working. No preparation needed — bring the broad picture and Niall will ask the right questions. You will leave knowing what a sensible arrangement looks like.

2

Receive a fixed-fee proposal

A clear proposal covering exactly what is included, at a fixed monthly figure. No ambiguous scope, no hourly billing. If there is catch-up work to do on prior years or messy records, that is costed separately and transparently before you commit.

3

We handle the transition

If you are switching from another accountant or from doing it yourself, the handover is managed by us. Cloud accounting is set up or migrated, records are brought current, and prior-year positions are reviewed. You do not need to chase your previous accountant — that is our job.

4

Focus on the content

Once onboarded, your books are current, your tax position is visible and questions get answered the day you ask them. You will know what your tax bill looks like before HMRC sends a reminder, and the expenses you are entitled to will be claimed. Which is, frankly, the way it should be.

Questions

Things influencers usually ask us first

Do you actually understand how brand deals, affiliate income and platform payouts are structured?+

Yes. Income from sponsored content, affiliate commissions, AdSense, Patreon and product sales all land differently and need to be recorded correctly for both bookkeeping and self-assessment purposes. There is also the question of whether payments received via overseas platforms carry any VAT implications. You will not need to explain the basics before getting a useful answer.

What does it cost and what is included?+

Fees are fixed monthly and agreed upfront — no billable hours, no surprises at year-end. The scope covers bookkeeping, self-assessment or corporation tax, and ongoing availability for questions. If your situation requires catch-up work on prior years or a limited company setup, that is quoted separately before you commit. Clients consistently describe the fees as competitive, with tax savings that more than cover the cost.

My records are in a mess and I have not filed for a year or two. Is that a problem?+

It is a common starting point, particularly for sole traders who have been managing things themselves. Catch-up work is scoped and priced at the outset so there are no surprises. Once prior years are resolved, everything moves onto a clean monthly basis. The longer the gap, the more straightforward it generally is to fix once someone competent is looking at it.

Is there a minimum contract or lock-in period?+

No long-term contract. The engagement is monthly and you can leave with reasonable notice. If you do leave, your records remain yours — in a cloud accounting platform you control — and your books will be current to the date you go. That is the arrangement we would want if the positions were reversed.

Should I be operating as a sole trader or through a limited company?+

It depends on your income level, how you draw money out, and whether you want to retain profit in the business. At lower income levels, the additional administration of a limited company often outweighs the tax saving. At higher levels, the dividend and salary split can be materially more efficient. The answer is worth modelling with actual numbers before committing to either structure.

What expenses can I actually claim as a content creator?+

Camera equipment, lighting, editing software, props, costumes used exclusively for content, a proportion of home office costs, broadband, travel to shoots and events, and relevant subscriptions are all potentially claimable — provided they are wholly and exclusively for the purpose of the trade. The test is not whether something is useful to the business but whether it is exclusively for it, and HMRC does scrutinise creator expenses. Getting this right from the start is considerably better than correcting it later.
