Sound familiar?

Behind on the books and not quite sure how far?

It starts with a few receipts not filed, a bank feed not reconciled, a VAT quarter left to sort out later. By the time later arrives, the pile is larger than expected and the numbers are not telling you anything useful. Running a business on incomplete records is more common than most owners admit — and more expensive than it looks.

  • Books months behind, with a year-end catch-up bill every time
  • VAT return due with no clear picture of what is owed
  • No real sense of where cash is going or what profit looks like

What current books actually look like

Bookkeeping done on a cloud platform means your records are never more than a few days behind. The VAT position is visible when you want it. The numbers are there when your accountant, your bank, or your own curiosity needs them.

  • Records kept current monthly — no year-end scramble, no catch-up invoice
  • VAT liability tracked in real time — no guesswork when the quarter closes
  • Income, expenditure and cash position visible whenever you need it
  • Fixed monthly fee — no surprises, no hourly rate creeping up

What small business clients say

These are verbatim reviews from verified clients. Different businesses, different starting points — the consistent theme is responsiveness and the absence of the faceless-firm experience.

My other-half introduced me to Niall at OD Accountants and I have to say my finances are so much the better for it. Unlike my previous Accountants, Niall is far more hands-on, available for advice and able to care for me as an individual, rather than a faceless client. His fees are very reasonable and the money he has saved me more than covers them. If you need an Accountant who cares, Niall and OD Chartered Management Accountants are the way to go.

What you get

What the bookkeeping service covers

The engagement is designed around a cloud accounting platform so the work happens continuously, not in a rush at quarter-end. Here is what that means in practice.

01

Clean, Current Monthly Records

Transactions categorised, bank feeds reconciled and records kept up to date on a rolling basis. Your books are never more than a few days behind, which means any question about the business — from you, your bank or HMRC — has a clean answer ready. No scrambling.

Included as standard
02

VAT Returns and MTD Compliance

VAT returns prepared and filed on time, with your liability tracked through the quarter so the number is never a surprise. Making Tax Digital for VAT is handled natively through the cloud platform — no manual submissions, no last-minute data exports. The obligation is met before you think to ask about it.

Included as standard
03

Data Ready for Payroll, Tax and Reporting

Bookkeeping done properly feeds everything else: payroll runs, Corporation Tax, management accounts, lender reports. When the records are current and correctly coded, the downstream work takes a fraction of the time — and the numbers are ones you can actually rely on.

Foundation for everything else
What clients say

Consistent across very different businesses

Start-ups, hospitality operators, consultants, long-term clients — the same things come up in the reviews: responsiveness, value for money, and an accountant who treats you as a person.

Why OD Accountants

What sets this firm apart from a standard bookkeeper

Any firm can process transactions. The difference is what sits behind the bookkeeping — the qualification, the technology and the level of attention.

☁️

Cloud-First — Real Data, Not Periodic Snapshots

Bookkeeping at OD Accountants is built on cloud accounting software with live bank feeds and app integrations. The records are current because the platform is doing the heavy lifting continuously, not at quarter-end. That means your VAT position, your cash balance and your categorised expenditure are visible when you need them — not three weeks after you ask.

📈

Chartered Management Accountant Oversight

Founder Niall O'Driscoll is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (FCMA, CGMA). The bookkeeping is not processed by a junior and signed off by no one — it feeds into the same firm that handles management accounts, Corporation Tax and strategic finance for the same client. That continuity matters when you want advice alongside the compliance work.

🤝

Responsive and Hands-On — Verified by Clients

Verified Google reviews going back over a decade describe the team as 'always available', 'fast to respond' and willing to 'go above and beyond'. That is not a marketing claim — it is what clients who have stayed for seven, ten and eleven years still say publicly. Questions asked on a Tuesday tend to get answered on a Tuesday.

Getting started

Up and running in four straightforward steps

The onboarding process is designed to require as little from you as possible. Most clients are fully set up within a couple of weeks.

1

Book a discovery call

A short call to understand your business, your current software (or lack of it) and what bookkeeping support you actually need. No obligation. You will leave the call knowing exactly what happens next and what it will cost.

2

Receive a fixed-fee proposal

A plain-English proposal with a fixed monthly fee — no hourly rates, no estimate ranges, no surprises later. If your books are behind, the catch-up cost is quoted separately and upfront so there are no ambushes.

3

We handle the setup

Cloud platform access, bank feed connections, migration of any existing data — handled by the team. If you are switching from another accountant or from a spreadsheet, the transition is managed without you needing to become an expert in the software.

4

Books current, every month

From here the bookkeeping runs on a rolling basis. Transactions categorised, VAT tracked, records reconciled — without requiring your involvement unless something genuinely needs a decision. Your job is to run the business. The books are handled.

Questions

Things people usually ask before getting started

Do you work with businesses on specific cloud accounting platforms, or does it matter what software I am already using?+

The firm is built around Xero and other cloud accounting platforms, with best-of-breed app integrations for bank feeds, expenses and reporting. If you are already on a cloud platform, migration to a compatible setup is straightforward. If you are on a desktop system or a spreadsheet, the team handles the transition as part of onboarding. The specific software question is worth raising on the discovery call — it usually has a simple answer.

What does bookkeeping cost, and what is included in the monthly fee?+

OD Accountants charges fixed monthly fees rather than hourly rates, so the cost is agreed upfront and does not move. The fee covers ongoing transaction processing, bank reconciliations, VAT tracking and the data being kept current month to month. If your books are behind when you start, a one-off catch-up fee is quoted separately and clearly before any work begins. Pricing is not published on the website — a quote is provided after a short discovery call, once the volume and complexity are understood.

My books are a mess — can you take that on, or do I need to sort it out first?+

Most new clients arrive with records in some state of disarray. That is not unusual and it is not a problem. The team will assess the catch-up work required, quote for it separately from the ongoing monthly fee, and get the records into a clean state before the rolling service begins. You do not need to sort anything out before making contact — that is the work.

Is there a long-term contract, and what happens if I want to leave?+

There is no long-term lock-in. If the arrangement is not working after a few months, you are free to leave. Your books are kept on your cloud platform, which means the data belongs to you — a new accountant or bookkeeper can pick up where OD Accountants left off without any obstruction. You leave with clean records and nothing owed beyond the period already worked.

Can you handle bookkeeping alongside payroll and VAT, or are those separate engagements?+

Bookkeeping, payroll and VAT returns are all services offered by OD Accountants and are frequently handled together for the same client. Doing so on a single cloud platform means the data flows between functions without manual re-entry — payroll journal entries post correctly, VAT is calculated from the same categorised transactions, and the records remain consistent. It is generally tidier than splitting these functions across different providers.

Will I be able to see my profit and tax position during the year, or only at year-end?+

With current bookkeeping on a cloud platform, your profit position and tax liability are visible at any point — not just when the year-end accounts are prepared. For clients who want a more structured view, management accounts with KPI reporting are available as an add-on. The bookkeeping is the foundation; the level of visibility on top of it is a question of what reporting you want layered above the numbers.
